A young man asked Socrates the secret to success. Socrates told the young man to meet him near the river the next morning. They met. Socrates asked the young man to walk with him toward the river. When the water got up to their neck, Socrates took the young man by surprise and ducked him into the water. The boy struggled to get out but Socrates was strong and kept him there until the boy started turning blue. Socrates pulled his head out of the water and the first thing the young man did was to gasp and take a deep breath of air. Socrates asked, 'What did you want the most when you were there?" The boy replied, "Air." Socrates said, "That is the secret to success. When you want success as badly as you wanted the air, then you will get it." There is no other secret.
Moral of the story:
A burning desire is the starting point of all accomplishment. Just like a small fire cannot give much heat, a weak desire cannot produce great results.

"Creative thinking"
The most powerful weapon on earth is the human soul on fire.” At an Interview at Reputed Business School, The Interviewer said, "I shall either ask you ten easy questions or one really difficult question.""Think well before you make up your mind!"The boy thought for a while and said, "my choice is one really difficult question."
"Well, good luck to you, you have made your own choice! Now tell me this. What comes first, Day or Night?"
The boy was jolted into reality as his admission depends on the correctness of his answer, but he thought for a while and said, "It's the DAY sir!"
"How?" the interviewer asked. "Sorry sir, you promised me that you will not ask me a SECOND difficult question!"
He was selected for the course!
Moral of the story -
Technical Skill is the mastery of complexity, while Creativity is the mastery of Presence of Mind. Most often, we are faced with tough situations. It’s up to us to choose the light and right solutions to make things better.

"Negative Thanksgiving"
A young woman was sitting at her dining table, worried about taxes to be paid, house-work to be done and to top it all, her family was coming over for Thanksgiving the next day. She was not feeling very thankful at that time. As she turned her gaze sideways, she noticed her young daughter scribbling furiously into her notebook.
“My teacher asked us to write a paragraph on Negative Thanksgiving for homework today.” said the daughter, “She asked us to write down things that we are thankful for, things that make us feel not so good in the beginning, but turn out to be good after all.”
With curiosity, the mother peeked into the book.
This is what the daughter had written:
“I’m thankful for Final Exams, because that means school is almost over.
I’m thankful for bad-tasting medicine, because it helps me feel better.
I’m thankful for waking up to alarm clocks, because it means I’m still alive.”
It then dawned on the mother, that she had a lot of things to be thankful for!
She thought again…
She had to pay taxes but she that meant she was fortunate to be employed.
She had house-work to do but that meant she had her own home to live in.
She had to cook for her family for Thanksgiving but that meant she had a family with whom she could celebrate.
We generally complain about the negative things in life but we fail to look at the positive side of it. What is the positive in your negatives?
Whether it rains or shines, look at the better part of life not just this week..but for your whole life !

"Always Grab the First Opportunity"
A young man wished to marry a farmer's beautiful daughter. He went to the farmer to ask his permission. The farmer looked at him and said, "Son, go stand out in that field. I'm going to release three bulls, one at a time. If you can catch the tail of any one of the three bulls, you can marry my daughter."
The young man stood in the field awaiting the first bull. The barn door opened and out came the biggest, meanest looking bull he had ever seen. He decided that one of the next bulls had to be a better choice than this one, so he ran over to the side and let the bull pass through.
The barn door opened again. Unbelievable! He had never seen anything so big and fierce in his life. It stood pawing the ground, it eyed him. Whatever the next bull was like, it had to be a better choice than this one he thought. He ran to the fence and let the bull pass through.
The door opened a third time. A smile came across his face. This was the weakest bull he had ever seen. This one was his bull, he said to himself. As the bull came running by, he positioned himself just right and jumped at just the exact moment. He threw his hands to grab..... But alas..... The bull had no tail.
Moral: Life is full of opportunities. Always grab the first one.
"PROGRESS is IMPOSSIBLE without CHANGE, and those who CANNOT CHANGE their MINDS, CANNOT CHANGE ANYTHING"

“All work and no play makes Jack a dull boy"
Mr. Philip had been working as an Accountant for the past 3 years. He was an extremely sincere and a diligent worker. But there had been a drastic drop in his performance since last few months. Worried about this declining graph he tried his best to figure out what had been going wrong for some time. He realized that his life had become too droning with the same routine each day. But he very easily ruled this out because he thought this couldn’t b the reason coz after all he was doing something that he always wanted to do. Mr. Philip always wondered how his neighbor Mr. Twain ,who had joined work with him, had almost the same workload as his, and whom he considered to have almost similar ability quotient ,seemed to be so happy, so 'not-tedious' and have maintained a consistent performance graph.
One day Mr. Philip thought of asking Mr. Twain the secret of his smooth and steady life. Mr. Twain smiled and replied "who said I never felt that my life had started becoming monotonous...I did but the only difference was that I din allow it to carry on with its intensions...Along with my work I also started hunting out for things that could make me indifferent to my boredom...I joined an Ngo for the welfare of orphans and started going out for their activities during a part of my leisure time..Instead of just sleeping at home on Sundays I chose to go for outdoor sports with my friends..I did not bring a drastic change in my life...Just a small change that cud keep those frowns away from me and make me work with the same enthusiasm as I did on the very first day of my job".
Moral -
Life is so the same every day that it feels boring. But it is not just a feeling its reality. But this is something that life has not gifted us but we have chosen for ourselves. Life has bestowed upon us countless opportunities but we have chosen to set out a barricade for them.
Then why nag about life being so monotonous when it is so by our wish?
This reminds us of the very famous saying that goes this way 'All work and no play make jack a dull boy'.
And day by day we are fostering that 'Jack like personality' in us.
But it is time to toss it out. Let us open doors for the amazing things that have not yet been a part of our lives
